Ecm Short

Postby DieselBuzz » Wed Jun 01, 2011 7:17 am

I made it to 250,000 and my harness shorted out going into the Ecm. Does anyone have the wiring chart of plug that goes into the computer? My '91 manual only has the gasser info. I really would like to find out what went wrong before toasting second computer. Thanks

Here's a shot of what the plug going into the ECU looked like.

And the ECU. It turns out that the wires going into the water in fuel sensor had lost some of their insulation and shorted but the most heat was at the ECU where pin #4 the common ground for the sensors comes back. Thanks to 921stgen for the wiring diagrams.

That seems to have happened to CrossysSon (brandon).
He fixed the wiring problem, I sent him an ECU and all is good.

Kinda' odd that there's 2 instances of this in about the same number of weeks. :?

My '91.5 has a mess of wires in it too, but I'm holding off doing much until the automatic tranny fries, so I can do a manual conversion, at which point I'll swap in the harness and a Manual ECU.

Mark.
