What do these wires go to?

Postby MoneyPit » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:36 pm

I'm cleaning up my wiring harness, trying to possibly find the source of my charging issue. I came across these two wires, a black, and a black with red stripe. They are wired into the harness at the same spot the pressure switch for the A/C system is (the plug in the picture) however, it appears as the terminal that may have been attached to the them is gone. Anyone know if these are grounds? I can't seem to find them in my FSM either.

My bad for not specifying, it's not actually the plug that's in my hand, but the wires directly behind my hand. I was using the plug as a "landmark" as to where I was looking.

Overcharging, last time I had my meter on it at idle, it was sitting at 15.22 volts. However, that could be reading wrong because of the battery that didn't want to accept a charge. I noticed my voltage being a bit higher than usual one day, and then started smelling rotten eggs, so I pulled over and the damn batter was smoking! Haven't put many miles on the truck since I did the swap from gas to diesel, but I'm on my 2nd voltage regulator (more expensive Echlin one from Napa) and the old one was the cheapy made in china one.

i was gonna say try a new regulator, but sounds like you already got that idea,i just replaced mine cause it was reading low and bouncing around, and i think its already bad again(in about 2 weeks) :?

Yep, already went that route ;) Which regulator did you buy (cheapy or a little nicer one?) The cheapy didn't sit right with me from the beginning, but I figured what the hell. I'll throw a new battery in and see what happens (voltage wise).

I think I found the answer to my own question in this thread, if someone can confirm the colors of their wires going to the under hood lamp

Don't know if you found this out or not, but that looks like the plugin for the windshield washer fluid pump.

I did happen to figure it out. The connector I'm holding in the pic is the pressure switch for the A/C , and the wires behind that (what I was really trying to figure out) go to the underhood lamp. The truck the harness came from was in a pretty good wreck on the passenger side, so I'm guessing that's why I'm missing the pig tail.
