Hazards Dead

Postby Diesel » Mon Aug 29, 2011 12:58 pm

Ever since owning my truck the hazards have been inoperable. I'd like them to work. Where should I start. By the way the turn signals themselves operate.

Cycle the switch several time vigorously and see if that corrects the problem. Some times the switch gets lint in there and working it a few times clears it up.

Mine just died as well on the duck. If I figure it out I'll let you know.

From what I recall, the Hazards get their power directly from a specific fusible link under the hood. There should be a plastic connector right after one of the links, and that's the one that goes to the hazards.

I'm not too sure of the routing after that point, so if it isn't that I won't be much help.

Ding, ding I went out and was messing with mine and noticed my replacement fuseable link was blown. It also controls the fan contol on the heater. I replaced my fuse and they worked along with my heater. It's the second wire from the left and believe it was a orange wire. Here is a pic of it. It's the wire that is now missing from the junction.

Just little note that I'll share.

If you try to use a '91 engine harness with a '92 or '93 Dash harness, the Hazards are the ONLY thing that will not work between the 2.
This goes for Intercooled or Non-intercooled on the '91 engine harness.
I found this out when I put the Carhauler back together a while back.
It was verified again, when a buddy put his crew cab together using a '93 engine harness with a '91 dash harness.

The multi-function switch can play a role in the problem as well. Replaced mine, and the turn signals and 4 ways work properly again. :D Was only something like $60 or so.

My turn signals works just fine. I tried hitting the hazards rapidly but still nothing. Could it be that there is a fuse burnt? What does it share a fuse with?

Look at my post above. The fusible link under the hood was bad giving me my issues.

Thanks but how do I know if a fusible link is bad?

They say you can pull on them or you can take a multimeter and puncture the wire to check for 12v's.

Did you check the flasher unit? The signals and hazards each have their own. For a quick test just swap them.

Oh I didn't know that. Is the flasher unit next to the fuses?

Yup! Both of them. The fuse box is marked signals or hazard. The hazard is the one out on the point. The horn relay is next to it and the flasher is on the fuse end.
