Brake lights and turn signals

Postby Eric_M » Mon May 14, 2012 12:10 pm

I am having an issue with the rear brake lights and turn singals.

The brake pedal switch apears to be working
4 way flashers only makes the front blinkers work
Std turn signals only makes the front work.

No brake lights or turn signals in the back. Checked for voltage and nothing in the back of the truck.

Marker lights work.

I am looking for the common places to start looking. This truck also has a scotch lock infestation :( any of them I am finding are getting removed and fixed.

Or if anyone has any links or information regarding the electrical on a 91 d350 I would really apreciated it!

Thanks!

Look up under the dash where the clutch pedal is/ could be. There is a blue rectangler plug about 2 inches long and 1/2 thick. This is the plug for the rear lights. It goes out thru a grommet near the steering column. If nothing works check this, and the ground wire in the rear.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Will do! I know exactly which one you are talking about. Its been hit a few times with the clutch. I will check it out and probably redo and add a few grounds on the body and frame of the truck

Thanks!

Ok I have a Left brake light now......

No power to the right brake light. Any ideas on where to look? Or is this a turn signal problem?

Also Fusable link stuff This is the one under the hood about a foot from the battery.

What is the middle orange wire?(2nd from the edge) and what should it be fused at? Right now mine is just running to the battery directly.....

Edit for more information. Only have power on one pin on the big blue plug by the steering column when the brake is pressed.

May be a bad multifunction (signal) switch. Try wiggling the switch and see if you get power with the brakes on. Sometimes the contacts get hot and melt down into the plastic and don't make contact.
Do the signals work? if so it's the switch for sure, because if the wires were bad they wouldn't work.

I will give that a good try!

Anyone know of a good source for a wireing diagram? Do the Haynes or Chilton Manuels have a wireing diagram? I need something I can look at.

I've been told that before but I was gonna say that if you were looking on a phone you might have an option that says "view full image" and that would get it clear. On a computer,I've no idea :|
You might dig threw my photobucket account (Ellis111)
