Alternator options

Postby Eric_M » Fri May 25, 2012 10:35 am

Is there an option or an alternator that will bolt in that is internally regulated? Is it worth looking into?

Currently the previous owner of mine put one on there and I was told it was internally regulated? and the firewall regulator is unpluged.

The problem is right now the alternator is one rib to small on the pully so it is eating the edge of the belt... not the end of the world from what I can tell.

Just looking into options for parts to keep an eye out for.

Thanks!

Pic of current alt?

Might be able to get an alt pulley from the correct alt and have it work on your current one. Some folks miss things like that.

You could probably just pull the pulley off there and put the right one one. That oughta get it to quit eating belt, if you can find another pulley.

Dang forgot to get a picture this weekend.... Spent all the time under it and no pictures of the engine/alt.

I will see what I can do tonight.

If I had the correct one I would look into swaping but at this point I dont have any extra parts. I might have to start looking for one.

Here is what is currently installed. I dont know anything about it. Right now the regulator on the firewall is disconected. I will know more when I am able to start it up later this week and check to see if it is actually charging or not.

I should know by friday if its charging or not.

I am thinking just trim the belt to fit, so remove one groove from it. its already well damaged at this point. And keep an eye out for the correct pully with enough room for the belt.

Sorry the pictures are not any better. Phone dosnt like dark close pictures.

So its charging nicely. I am thinking its a 2nd gen alternator.

Just means I need to find the right pulley for it.

Any one know of a good place to find the right pulley? and will any pulley with the correct number of ribs work?

Looking at replacing the belt at the same time and get it all back up to good. and probably the idler pulley at the same time.
