Fusible link help

Postby rythornton » Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:34 pm

I just bought this 1993 cummins d250 and the previous owner was telling me about the fusible links. i was wondering if anybody had some ideas for me to fix the fusible link problem (they keep blowing) with a cool fuse panel or something. Any ideas??

You can replace them with fuses, but if it has an actual electrical problem the fuses won't help.

What link keeps popping, and what does it control?

Ya, if they keep blowing, something is shorted out.

Personally, I'd replace the fusible links with a Painless Wiring distribution block and put in breakers for those.

Something like this-

NEW- '82 CREW cab dually. Cummins, NV5600, 205, D60/D80. :D Work in progress......

'93 W350, CTD, ext cab, 5spd., HTT modded H1C, 4" exhaust, Kelderman single bag. 537k and counting!

SOLD- '92 W250, CTD, ext cab, 5spd

SOLD- '99 3500, SO CTD, 5spd

Traded off- '97 3500 CTD, 416hp/892tq.

Does it pop randomly or does it seem to have something to do with one of them being used?

When you say AC, do you mean the compressor clutch or the entire fan motor/HVAC setup? The AC compressor has a key-on hot going to it that I've burnt up a couple times now. ( ) However, when I've lost my key-on stuff my windows and blower motor have always stayed working.

What year truck are we dealing with here?

Nah, you should be fine. I'm not too sure anybody here even has any street cred to be honest. Maybe Pete, but that's just because he's so damn thug.

If you guys are near a semi wrecking yard, the fuse box out of a CH series Mack truck is awesome. I've got one at the house I'll grab a pic of. Sooooo many fuses and relays to play with.

It's Pistol Pete to those in the know. ;)

I added a fuse box from under the hood of a '01 dodge gasser to mine. It wasn't fun rewiring it to run the fuses to the relays and tieing it in to the headlights, parking lights, trailer plug, fuel pump in thwe rear tank, etc.
