voltage regulator?

Mine is a 92. I went with the old school way of regulaten it. Becuz it wasnt charging. And yes I went and clean my grounds on the battery put new terminals on and ran a ground straight from the negative terminal to up under the dash behind cab light button. Now my grid heatera are not plugged up. I still have a wts light tho. The grid heaters were not hooked up when I purchased the truck. Both black wires I assume go straight to the positive I assume. Well when I do that the jus sizzle as in a short sumwhere
