HID Conversion?

Postby 93DodgeCummins » Thu Oct 11, 2012 6:13 pm

Has anyone done a HID conversion? I was looking for something that has a good light cut off so i don't blind people. I drive at night a lot and the old halogens just aren't enough for me.

I was thinking about something like this kit here : http://www.ebay.com/itm/7X6-SQUARE-PROJ ... 8d&vxp=mtr

I have no experience with the HIDs but must ask, have you considered the relay mod of the stock/OEM headlights?

It basically involves installing a couple of relays. They are wired such that the truck's headlight switch actually powers the relays. They in turn provide power directly to the headlights. In doing so, you're effectively removing all the dinky stock/OEM power conductors from the circuit allowing full 12 ~ 14vdc to the headlights. Further, with the addition of a single/simple diode, one can have both the low AND high bulbs illuminate when turning on the high-beams.

- Be sure to enlarge the headlight ground (common) conductors for each bulb as they are surprisingly small.
- Be sure to enlarge the stock/OEM body (truck) ground from the battery to the radiator support. It's dinky too.

Hope this helps. :)

Would you happen to have some comparison pictures between the brightness of the stock and upgraded wiring. I am just curious how much better it actually is.

How do you like them? Do you have any pictures of the brightness? Do they have a good light cutoff?

I like them, they are miles ahead of stock lights. I may try the new LED's though, just curious.

The E-spec lens is supposed to be alot better for not brighting oncoming traffic. I don't think i have had anyone bright me yet in 2 years, i have had a few cars in front of me tap the brake lights though when i am following them. It is pretty common with trucks behind cars though, that's why the have a 2 position rearview mirror.

I will try and get some pics this weekend.
