Whats this box behind the glove box?

Postby jaysav » Mon Dec 17, 2012 1:46 pm

Hello All, I just picked up a 90 Ram Cummins Diesel. As I was cleaning out the glove box I found what looks to be some kind of computer module located behind the glove box. What is this box for? At this time the box is unplugged. The truck seems to run fine, I wanted to know what I might be getting into if I reconnect it. Thanks in Advance.

probably the abs computer. chances are, the PO bypassed the abs valve(hopefully) and unplugged the abs computer to get rid of the light. leave it unplugged, and i would check and see if the abs valve is hooked up or not. if it is, i would bypass it. brakes work alot better without it.

Usually the PO unplugs that but doesnt bypass the abs. I would not unplug it and not bypass the valve. Theres a couple stories floating around of ill results from doing that.

Yes, something along those lines. One reported the pedal went to the floor and braking was diminished. Not sure how or why it happened, but for a few dollars of brass you might as well get rid of abs for good.

I bypassed the dump valve by running a new piece of line. Brakes worked a bit better, before it was like stepping on a big sponge :?

Unplugged the ABS computer on the 93. No problems thus far. Great solid brakes. :) Make sure the rears are adjusted up properly. That alone can give you crappy brakes if they aren't.
