Bad crank sensor?

Postby 1stgensleeper » Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:44 pm

Hey guys, whatever help you could give me would be much appreciated. So the other day I noticed that my alternator wasn't charging my battery. Checked some wiring, changed a bad fuse, and still nothing. I replaced the alternator and it still wouldn't charge the battery. I did notice also my crank sensor was loose and had been rubbing the crank bad  so could that be the problem? It's my daily driver so I need it fixed. Any help would be awesome. Thanks. :thumleft:

Yes, that is most likely your problem, especially since you know it was rubbing.
The CPS does 2 things, it tells the ECM there is crank motion and that allows the alternator to charge.
It also runs the OEM tach, if you happen to be lucky enough to have one.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'll put a new sensor on tonight and see if that does the trick.

There is supposed to be .050 clearance between the sensor and the balancer. It also turns on the AC and something else I can never remember.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
