Door Panel Wiring

Postby 89dudney » Thu Jun 27, 2013 10:35 am

What are some things I can do in the door to try and fix the power windows, locks, etc? Dad has had them working before I got the truck and it was parked all last winter and ever since, nothing has worked.

Well, the switches can go south randomly, and just the constant opening and closing of the door can cause wiring breaks where the wires go from the cab to the door. Grab a multimeter or test light and check if you have power at the switches, then go from there...

Well, butt connectors aren't all bad, just have to be used properly. Personally, I tend to use the non-insulated variety and then use heat shrink over it, way cheaper than the heat shrink butt connectors, and just as weather resistant. Using standard butt connectors in a door is asking for trouble, because the insides of the doors will get wet if the window belt weather strip is old and cracked...shoot, they leak anyways  Any time any part of an electrical circut is exposed to the elements, it's only a matter of time before there are issues...

Ike- The best place to buy the insulated butt connectors, is over at Midwest Wheel. Can buy a bag of 100pcs, for not much more than what F&F sells a dinky bubble pack for! :D
