Well, butt connectors aren't all bad, just have to be used properly. Personally, I tend to use the non-insulated variety and then use heat shrink over it, way cheaper than the heat shrink butt connectors, and just as weather resistant. Using standard butt connectors in a door is asking for trouble, because the insides of the doors will get wet if the window belt weather strip is old and cracked...shoot, they leak anyways
Any time any part of an electrical circut is exposed to the elements, it's only a matter of time before there are issues...
