WINDOWS AND THE DOOR INSIDES HELP!

Postby 89dudney » Mon Jul 15, 2013 6:20 pm

I have a 1990 and the windows will not go up or down and the locks don't work either. It is all power locks and windows. It has been fixed a couple times before, but has never lasted long. I saw a thread somewhere whether it was here or a different forum but it had a link to a place that sold newer "Revised" motors and "actuators" for a first gen. I didn't know if any of you guys had done that or even heard of it. I would really like to be able to use my windows. Thanks

Have you taken the panel off to see if you are getting power?

He said hes taken it off and saw 182,000 butt connectors. That surely isn't helping anything.

Sounds like its time to start taking apart the other fixes and checking things. Invest in a manual with a hood wiring diagram. My door locks don't work I didn't see any broken wires in mine and haven't really messed with it since I don't lock it anyway.

Yeah but locking doors isn't going to do nothing if they want in. I work in the ghetto of Cincinnati and leave it open. Rather them not bust a window out.

Andy, I was waiting for the lecture on how he stole it with a rollback and locks wouldn't have made a difference.

Lol yeah it didn't matter that time he just drug it up on the bed. After coming out to a busted out window when I first moved there I stopped locking them.

I finally took apart my doors and fixed my power locks. I have fully functional locks again. Tonight I am gonna try to fix the windows. Has anyone wired their windows directly to the battery and used a toggle switch to get power to the windows???

Did you see if you are getting power to the switches? Mine work 90% of the time, switches are starting to go out. If no power there, check at the other end of the door harness, at the main plug behind/inside the dash. The doors have a separate harness from the main cab harness. Always check for power and grounds and what not before you go cobbling switches in and making the electrical issues these trucks have worse ;)

Okay, I have power to my drivers side door and everything in the drivers side door is totally functional again. I started working on the passenger door and I have power to the locks and I got the power locks to work on the passenger side. I then started to try and make the windows work on the passenger side but I didn't have any power to the switch. I took my glove box out and unplugged the harness behind the glove box. I have power to everything but the windows in the harness. Where would I trace that harness back to and try to find my power loss?

Power comes of fuse #2 and goes to a square, four terminal connector located behind the radio. From there it hits a splice and continues on to the rectangular eight terminal connector located over the heater box somewhere. I'll load some pictures in a minute of the schematic.
