I would start with the dimmer switch. I know mine is bad and only have low beams.

Mine would pop and sometimes have to double click yo get high beams. Now they go out when I click it.

The multi switch appears to be a problem on these, a lot of people have put relays in to lessen the load on it and found fewer problems and in some cases brighter lights.

Its worth doing the relays now that you have a new switch. Very easy, no splicing factory wires, and the worst that will happen is you'll have brighter lights.

How do you go about putting the relay in? Both my 93 trucks have issues. My daily driver lost hi and low so I put a new dimmer switch in. Now they both work but if I have it on high they will shut off after about 5 min and then my D 350 lost all lights the other day even if I pulled the high beam lever back they didn't come on so I had to take a good alligator clips to the battery and the low beam prong on the headlights to get home. So once I get this figured out I would rather not have to worry about it again. Thanks. Sorry for hijacking the thread

Also, just a quick tip. Buy OEM relays. The "Bosch" relay has become chinese. Other universal "Bosch" or "Bosch Style" relays you'll find online (eBay is your best source) will also be chinese. If you get a MOPAR relay that goes under the hood of a vehicle you'll get a quality relay. I used Ram Van relays that actually had a bracket on them - and I bolted it to the inner fender using OEM bolts.

Hey that's a good write up. Even includes a wiring diagram thanks for finding that. Both of my trucks will be getting that. I can definitely feel my dimmer switch getting hot. I work nights. So most of my driving is at night. Sometimes its nice having a little piece of mind 8)

It's so easy to do and no cutting original harness so it really is a no brainer.

I like not having to cut into my harness. Another easy thing to do is wire an 80's style external voltage regulator to the firewall. Just two wires running from the regulator to the alternator and one of those sourced to keyed power. I had to do that on my 93 gasser because the internal regulator in the brain box went out :D. Both style alternator run on the same parameters. Your volt gauge still works but your check engine light comes on.
