Another grid heater question..

Postby DodgeFreak » Sun Jan 05, 2014 5:31 pm

My 92 Crew cab grids stopped working. First it was the relay on the fender clicking on and off until it would hold. So I switch relays Yesterday and it I cycled the key a couple times and it seemed to work. Tonight I tried to start it and the wait to start light didn't even come on. Cycle the key a few times and the wts light comes on but not the grids. Any Ideas?? I tried with the IAT unplugged and jumpered both. What else would control it?? I'm taking it into work to try and figure that out and install two batteries.

Okay I'm stumped..... They work once I get the truck running. They work if its warm. They didn't work when I went to put the batteries in. They started working when I got it running and then after that they would cycle. I got the batteries done they worked when I went to leave, and when I got home. Once it cooled off they won't come on with the key.

There is a temp sensor on the intake mana fold it is closer to the fire wall I think. This is what measure the temp and kicks grid heater on at temps below 50 degrees.

The one closest to the firewall is for the coolant temp gauge. On NON-IC trucks, it is in the center of the intake log on the head, facing to the left (horizontially), directly below the intake horn. On IC trucks, it is located on top of the intake log, on the intake plate (vertically), to the rear of the intake horn.

Apperently this guy should of answered first. The sensor is in the intake not the head. Yes the one in the head is for the coolant.
