1990 cruise control

Did the 1990 model trucks have cruise control? If no, can one add the cruise control servo without the computer?

As far as I know they did. Most of the wiring you probably already have. Why would you need a computer? My 91 had cruise, it should be just like yours...plug and play.

Just options my friends ;) Not all LE packaged trucks got every option, we all know that these trucks can be oddballs. IIRC, the 89's had the cruise switches on the multi function switch, i.e., turn signal lever. 90's had them on the steering wheel, as they are the "two spoke model" with the Chrysler symbol in the center. That is how my 91 was. 92/93 LE's got the "three spoke model" on the LE's and a mix of two and three's on the non LE's. Maybe Pete will chime in, as he put cruise control in his.

What I did won't help Daniel, mine runs off the PCM. I'm pretty sure that the older trucks with cruise had a brainbox someplace. I do know that the only thing different with parts for diesels vs gas is the cruise cable has a different end, and the servo mounting bracket is different. So if he goes to a junkyard and fins a gasser with cruise, he can get most of the parts.

Daniel, don't forget your dad's close personal friend, Mark Nixon. I think his number is #2 on your dads speed dial, #1 is voicemail and your mom is #3.

My cruise runs off vacuum. Not much technology involved there

Tim, there's more to it than that. The vacuum only pulls the throttle on. There has to be a controller to open the valves to let vacuum in or out to control the speed. Your PCM controls the actuator.

True but this technology is not fancy its not smart cruise were an ecm tells all of these other things what to due. Its got relays that tell the vacuum solenoid what to due.

So what exactly do i need to rob off a gas truck? I know where there is 3 or 4 gassers sitting that have cruise control.

My 1990 has cruise and it has a dedicated module under the dash that is specific to 89 and 90 model year diesel trucks. After 90 they ran the cruise through the PCM. My module is in several pieces and I've been searching for a new one for a while. They can be a little tricky to find.

KB, I take it early 91 (NON-IC) trucks are going to be the same as the 89-90 as there is no PCM, correct?

FWIW, I'm watching this like a hawk. I'm planning on attempting cruise on my RC, and I have a non-IC'd '91 that had the cruise setup under the hood and no PCM. However, it all got yanked, so hopefully we can piece it all together.

You got a pic/location of that dedicated module, KB? I've got the dash out of the '91 so I can trace wires and whatnot for us if it's the same.

Levi, the factory module is about the size of a deck of cards, right by the hood release handle. I snapped a few pics for you all...
