Not turning over

Postby mhuppertz » Mon Feb 17, 2014 11:44 am

Replaced the starter relay and the ignition switch, clutch switch soldered. Starts again after sitting.
Ideas?

So it won't start until it has sat a while... sounds like the starter itself.

Heat soak? The el-cheapo Chinese piece of crap starter I got from Nixon does the same thing after cranking on it for a little bit, let it cool for ten-fifteen minutes and its good for another 30 seconds

When the electric motor itself (the windings) wear out... they don't conduct electricity as well when hot. Meaning the starter won't work when driving around after a while. It'll usually seem like you have a dead battery..... let it sit for a while and it'll work normal again.

Everything that is supposed happen does when I turn the key, except there zero sound from the starter solenoid, like when you forget to push in the clutch before you try to start it. I

Next time it does it tap on the starter with something. Mine did this when the started died.

Mine did the same thing but it was the starter relay which you've already changed.

Have you jumpered the clutch safety switch to verify that's not it?

It was the contacts. Put in a new one and will rebuild the original one with a contact kit. It lasted 400,000 miles!
