Hazards, Blinkers, and Brake lights

Postby Ryker Carruthers » Thu May 01, 2014 9:03 am

When I got my truck, my brake pedal rested about 4'' above the clutch, we looked under, and there was a nasty tack weld holding a stop if you could call it that. And a spring, we took the spring out so I wouldn't have to knee the steering wheel when I hit the brakes. I tried the hazards a few days ago and they didnt work so I hit the button again, yesterday i hit the button without knowing it, and my turn signals wouldn't work. I went to a buddies place and we tried to address this, and my cruise not working. I tore into the column to see if any wires for the cruise were broken and I couldn't see any. When I got it back together Daniel hit the hazard button and then moved my turn signal and what do ya know, it works. Cruise still doesn't, I think I am going to run toggle switches. Is there any way to make resume and set work on one switch? My brake lights are now on all the time. I have to hit my hazard button when i shut the truck off to get my brake lights to turn off. Hopefully its an obvious easy fix for my brake lights. Any suggestions on that or cruise?
Thanks, Ryker

sounds like the po had a spring to keep the pedal up so the brake lights would stay off. Look under the dash there should be a brake light switch try pushing it forward so when the pedal is all the way up it will shut the lights off.

Brake switches are easy to adjust. As for the cruise control, the clock spring may be bad. Before going and putting switches in, test it with a multimeter. I believe there is a different clock spring that'll work in our trucks, but can't remember what it came out of.

I believe the Dakota one. I haven't personally tried it, but alot of the Dakota stuff works for ours.

Also if the brake lights are on all the time that would prolly cause the cruise not to work since when you tap the pedal it will kill the cruise. Try lifting the pedal or adjusting the switch and see if the cruise then works.

one nipple for the vaccume line was broken, we got that fixed a few nights ago. I fixed the brake light switch. It had been broke before so I had to make a spacer to fit between the button and the pedal. The mount for the switch is so fubard there really is no way to move it. If I ever get the chance I will fix it right.
So now people can tell when I am slowing down... lol
