cruise control went out

My cruise control stopped working. Any tips on where to start as far as diagnosing the problem? It's a 93 W250 LE

Did your speedometer stop too? There are several things and connections to check like the brake switch, neutral safety switch, etc.

No everything else works. It's just the cruise control. The vaccine house to the control unit has been recently replaced and still looks good.

Could be the buttons or the clock spring as I was told. I think I am going to put mine on a toggle switch. I'd like to make it work as a high idle too to warm the truck up.. Can one do that?

There is a write up over on Cummins Forum. You'll have to dig for it. Why not fix the problem correctly instead of cutting into the wiring? Dodge Dakota clocksprings can be made to work along with good used, or new switches can be had. Get a multimeter and check each part before putting parts on it blindly.... it may be something really simple

I'd like to fix it correctly. I've got a multimeter but am not sure how to test the clock spring or the buttons. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Might have to dig up a wiring schematic so you can check continuity between points/pins...meaning that there isn't a break in the circuit...

I used the service manual and a volt meter meter to troubleshoot it and it's the switch. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Cheapest option, new aftermarket Dakota unit and modify the plugs to work with ours. They aren't as spendy as the replacements from the dealership, if they are even available anymore. I paid $200 for one in 2004...
