Sending unit??????

Postby dbshelton » Sun Aug 24, 2014 10:03 am

I have a 1991.5 Cummins on a stand. The wiring is off and rolled up in a box. I think I have almost everything figured out but the sending unit/switch that is screwed into the head just behind the fuel filter. Has 2 pins on it. What is this and what is its purpose???

If this is what you're looking at, it's associated with the automatic transmission and inhibits the transmission from going into over-drive till the engine warms up.

Thank you. I couldn't find a diagram in any of my books.
Also, can I tap into the plug on top of the oil filter mount for an oil pressure gauge?

Yes . . . . .

But know that the stock/OEM oil pressure sensor is located on the side of the block, just behind the power steering pump. You can Tee in there, and save that on the top of the oil filter to feed a possible second turbo in the future. ;)

Thanks. This is just a temporary hook up. I have built a run-in stand to run this engine and check out the condition, check for leaks, etc. on this engine.

My run-in stand worked out well. Kinda cool to run the Cummins in the garage. :D
