91.5 cummins computer delete

Postby 93cummins89 » Sat Apr 18, 2015 9:55 pm

I have a 91.5 cummins D250 auto tranny. The PO has done a hack job on the wiring and I'm to the point of taking it all out from the motor to the dash and stating new plus I want to move the fuse block to the motor bay. Has anyone tried this and been successful? I need a lot of help call every junk yard near and far and no body has a harness. So, to me this seems like a good way to go. I have read countless forms talking about doing it. I just need some guidance

the computer controls the charging system .
with a auto it controls when to shift into overdrive

does it control the ac temp with trucks that have air-conditioning ?

compared to a gas motor , the wiring on a diesel is very simple .

what I do myself is get several wiring diagrams and learn how the thing is wired inside and out .

then thoroughly clean and scrub everything under the hood .

then I start tagging wiring and taking notes and pictures while removing all the non stock wiring .

I then rewire the truck back to stock using as close to stock coloured wires as possible , or I leave notes in my manual as to what wire is which .

the closer to stock the wiring is , the less grief it will give you and future owners .

I think it controls compressor time, grid heater/intake heater/toaster, voltage regulation, cruise control, speedo, anything else I don't know about. And yes the diesel wiring is simple. I'm just looking for ideas and where to start

I've parted several trucks out and saved alot. Which harnesses are you looking for? I believe I've got an underhood, 2 dash harnesses, etc

Idk, id think they'd be the same, as long as your was an original intercooled truck, should work. Sounds like you need the engine bay harness, which plugs into the engine harness, as well as the giant plug on the firewall. Pm me your email or phone number and ill text or email you some pics.

No bumper or tailgate though,

Different harnesses. The 91.5 still has a voltage regulator on the firewall. The ecm in the 92 was the first year it controlled the charging system.

ah ok thanks. Ordered 2 blue sea 12 circuit fuse blocks and i'm going to mount them some where in the motor bay. also got a owners manual and a chrysler diesel service manual.going to start at the ECM taking out wire that are no longer needed (28 in total). then i'm going to start tracing and moving all the neede circuits to the 2 new fuse blocks in the motor bay. going bare bones and keeping just the needed things plus the A/C gotto have that. thus eliminating ECM controlled cruise, message center, ABS, water-in-fuel, grid heat control, wait-to-start. going to be a long week
