ECM delete to do list questions

Postby ofelas » Sat May 23, 2015 5:29 am

Hi, on a 91.5 auto 4x4, if I want to do an ECM delete -

1/ Grid heaters - momentary on pushbutton switch - blue wires from heater relays grounded via the switch

2/ TPS - shouldn't make a difference as all it does it set the 3rd to 4th shift point

3/ OD - red wire off the OD solenoid grounded through a 2-pin toggle switch

4/ Speedo - blue wire off the VSS grounded to chassis

5/ Rear ABS - not affected if I unplug the module

6/ Charging - not affected, as 91.5 is regulated externally

7/ AC & cruise - don't have these on my truck

8/ KSB - not sure what the will affect

9/ Fuel heater & water in sensor - use the Cummins delete nipple and go with an integral drain Fleetguard FS1221 or similar)

10/ The FSO shouldn't be affected

The coolant temp switch, trans temp switch and air temp switch can be left connected as they are now redundant

With the harness unplugged at the ECM, the truck starts, runs & turns off just fine, except that the grid heaters and OD don't get a closed ground circuit.

Anything else Im missing?

He is wanting to garbage up his wiring harness. A TPS delete kit means nothing when he removes the PCM.

Without a PCM it will not work. The PCM grounds the wire to the OD solenoid. The pot or TPS sends a variable voltage signal to the PCM to tell it throttle position. The PCM uses that info and the speed reading to determine if OD is needed. So with no PCM there is no need for the TPS or the delete kit for it.

To engage OD you provide power to one solenoid wire. When ever the other wire is grounded. OD is engaged. Without a PCM you have to provide the ground for OD. A TPS or delete kit will not do the job.

"Garbage up" ? Seriously? LOL.
A couple jumper wires, no cutting or splicing.
Less impact than adding fog lamps.

Every person has an opinion. You have yours and I have mine.

If I walked up to buy your truck. When I noticed every thing removed or by passed. I would take at least 2K off what ever you wanted.

Its your truck do what you want.

You are missing the point entirely. There is nothing missing, spliced or cut.

Jumping 2 wires for the OD & speedo is less "garbaging" than say, putting in a 4" exhaust or HX40 or airbags.

We all do what we have to do to get max enjoyment & utility from our vehicles.

My vehicles are generally not for sale, but if one was, resale value is the least of my worries.

If you send me up a 91.5 auto PCM for the price of shipping, I"ll add $2k to the price if I sell my truck to you ;-)
