1989 D250 won't crank with key?

Postby jmos4 » Sat Feb 06, 2016 3:22 pm

Hi,

I just changed my battery cables and battery, the engine won't start with the key and the blinkers light up on the dash. The truck has been sitting for a bit.

I can jump the solenoid and it starts and runs, but the gages are not working as well as the rear tail lights

Also is there a source for the grid heater connector, the 4 gage single connection? I had to cut it back due to it badly corrode.

Regards,
Jim

NAPA should have those connection in stock. Solder them on.

Check your fuse links and see if any are bad.

Hi,

NAPA is who made the cables and they couldn't find a replacement for that one do you have a part number?

Where are the fuseable links, l check the fuse panel and have power at all of the fuses, could it be anything to do with the wires at the positive cable?

I looked around but didn't see anything burned up, but wasn't sure where to look.

Sounds like a bad ground for the tail lights. When the blinkers light up, it usually is because of a bad ground to one or more of the parking lights

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

The fuse links are by the driver side hood hinge. It is a single wire that feeds into a Y block that has 4 or 5 wires coming out of it. The smaller wires are the fuse links.

Here is a terminal that will work. The number is a Doorman number. NAPA can cross it.

Hi,

I know about putting eyeloops on the wires I was speaking about the 4 gage wire that has a black quick connect connector as the wire was corroded and the corression went through the to the connector, hence wanting to know what the connectors part number was so I could make a new short cable

That connector I have never seen in the after market. That wire is your main feed from the alt. Used channels is about your only option there.
