That's all there is to it. The only downside is if the alternator pukes on a road trip most parts stores won't have a 1 wire alternator in stock.

If you get the correct alternator or take yours to a rebuild shop they can alter it to a 1 wire, then you don't have to "make it fit". Not sure if you were thinking of getting a Delco or what, but thought I'd throw that out there.
I think 120 should be plenty, I can't remember what is on it stock, I think around there.

I think 120 is stock on -89, atleast i have and there is chrysler star on it.
I just got it back from local repair store, they said that bearings are way too small for this size alternator, it was making noises when I took it there.

This is just my opinion but i would measure alt matching with things eating electricity continiously.

There is no point of having 200amp alternator if you need 30amps for lights and heater etc.
If you need amps fast to winch or something it is powered from good big batteries.

I work with machines like tractors, excavators and foresting. They have small alternators compared to battery capasity.

I installed a Leece Neville 110555 JHO 160-amp alternator in my 1st gen, it produces 100-amps at a fast idle and 160-amps at cruising speed.

This alternator was commonly installed on most every class-8 tractor and as far as availability you can get them at most truck stops, heavy duty truck parts and many 24-hour parts houses like Freightliner and Kenworth dealers.

I designed the conversion to be simple and overkill, all charge leads use 2-gauge welding cable to the battery and ground, for effency, with the grid heaters cycling the battery voltage does not dip below 12.5 volts while idling.
