Postby 92cummins89 » Tue Mar 08, 2016 8:54 pm

Put a new alternator an battery still not charging check with meter an it read wat ever is left of the charge from the charger then take the meter put it behind the alternator an reads the same as the battery
Cleaned battery polls,
Cleaned grounds from battery to block an alternator to block
Anything else left to try or did I get a bad alternator?

What year is your truck?

If it's a 92/93 then the CPS might be mis-adjusted, or the ASD relay on the driver fender could be bad also.

CPS is the crank position sensor on the front balancer, there should be a .050 gap between the sensor and the high spot on the balancer.

ASD is 1 of the relays on the front fender by the hood hinge. I can't ever remember which one though.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

This thread has pics of the relays, and what they do...which one has the wires cut on yours?

Was it charging before?= you did Alt and battery? Did a PO convert to an old electronic Voltage regular box on the firewall?

The CPS gap is supposed to be .048 to .050. You need a non magnetic feeler gauge to check it. I fold up a cereal box, or other hard cardboard, until I get a dial caliper reading of approx .048 or so...then use that as my feeler gauge. ;)
