Thermocouple compatibility pyrometer

Postby IH4life » Mon Mar 21, 2016 3:08 pm

Im currently switching from westach gauges to autometer gauges and wondering if I can reuse the Thermocouple from the old pyrometer? The westach is a nice cable that's steal braided K type and also seized into the manifold and for the life of me cannot remove. neither web site of each manufacture specifies any information. I was thinking I could measure the resistance in the cable/Thermocouple for some base line info and make some phone calls?

Yes you should be able to use whichever, they are most likely both 'K' type thermocouples (yellow and red wires).

You want to measure millivolts on a thermocouple not resistance. They are just two different material wires welded together so resistance will be close to zero.

Thanks! yeah im really lacking in the electronic/multimeter department! I had to edit my post cause I realized the probe that came with the autometer gauge (used) is short and stubby and not likely a K type but that's all im really seeing on their website anyways(K Type). And yes they are both read and yellow wire! Phew!
