Cruise Drops Out

Postby b4autodark » Mon May 30, 2016 6:22 am

I've got a early 91 automatic and when the cruise is set and I hit a larger than normal bump the cruise drops out and I have to turn it off and back on to reset it. Any idea where to start looking for the problem?

Thanks

It'll probably be the cruise servo. There are some little steel plungers in side that have some rubber ends on them, they will get gritty and nasty.....and it won't take much to loose their suction.

The clocking spring could be broke as well. The jar could make it open up,shutting the cruise down.

Brake pedal switch is set too loose. The bump is making the pedal jump and the switch is cutting the cruise off. Have somebody watch the brake lights and step on the pedal, if the lights come on and you have barely moved the pedal the switch needs adjustment.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Update: It was the brakelight switch, tied a rope to the pedal and kept tension on it while driving and never dropped out of cruise mode, took the rope off and drove the same route the same speed and dropped out about 5 times in three miles. Good advice PToombs, thanks for the post.
