flickering head, tail and dash lights

Postby ggreenall90 » Thu Jul 28, 2016 12:49 pm

When my headlights are on all my lights flicker. Also my voltage gauge goes haywire when driving. Sitting still it's pretty steady but only goes up about 1/4 of the way. The more fuel you give the truck (pulling a hill) the more they flicker. Driving normal the voltage gauge ticks like a clock. Any idea as to what is wrong?

I would check your grounds first, possibly engine vibrations are causing a loose connection to act up.

What year is it? the early trucks had a problem getting full voltage to the regulator, causing the symptoms you describe and they actually over charge the battery. Have you checked voltage with a meter at the battery with it running?

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Sounds like voltage regulator acting up on early models. Relaying that sob solves many problems, cannot find that topic now...
But you say voltage meter is odd, I think you have newer truck with computer hadling charging, I can not help with those.

my 92 with an external reg does that ticking like a clock but the idle was really low. also it over charges so I'm assuming its something to do with your reg also. Mine over charges at 18 volts I think lol.
