new harness??

Postby Murdawg » Mon Jan 21, 2008 5:56 am

All of our wiring in our trucks is junk. Horrable created. Is there a place to get new wiring harnesses or does painless or someone make one. I am going to be switching cabs and running my own electrical system and don't want to have to run every wire for myself. I figure I could get a painless kit and mod it. I would have to run my own stuff for the fuel and intake heater and the wait to start light.

painless has quite a few different universal kits that, i'm pretty sure, would work just fine. after trying to repair or partially re-wire some older cars, it's just not worth the time/money to try to fix when an entire harness costs a couple hundred.
there are a few different wiring harness manufacturers that are of the same quality as painless but less expensive, don't remember the names right now, I'll have to dig a little and get back to you.

There really isn't all that to our harnesses... I'd consider making my own.

My truck's running out of OEM wires as it is.

I'm doing mine a little at a time. Every time something with electrical to it gets modded added or deleted I replace or remove the wiring. I'm close to pulling the PCM but haven't decided what to do about the speedo yet. After that, I think the majority of the stock wiring can come out with the exception of the starting, charging, and small/aft/interior lighting. Those may get re-done as-needed, or if-ever needed.
