Factory Tach

Postby peobryant » Tue Jul 22, 2008 4:15 pm

I may have access to a factory tach from a '93 D350 and I was wondering if I could use it in my truck. If so, what would I need?

Thanks.

You should have everything you need in your 93 its under the dash around the steering column.

If you get it and it is factory you will have several jealous people on the board.

He said the tach is from a 93, his truck is a 91. If the truck is I/C'd it should have the plug. I'm not positive because I think i read someplace that this was hit and miss on the 91 trucks with intercoolers. Look for the plug 1st, and go from there.
Or get it and sell it to the blood thirsty bunch on here. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

The 91.5's don't have a crank position sensor. That is one of the differences between it and a 92. That 93 tach won't work. Sorry to say.

But to be sure look at the crank damper. At the 11:00 position is where the CPS should be mounted if it has one.

So is there any way possible to get this to work on my truck?

Factory tachs only go up to 3000 RPMs? That sucks.

You can get an ISSPRO crank sensor here:

Part # RS8912. That's what I used for my ISSPRO tach. Should work for any gauge that uses a 2x electric tach signal.

my truck has the factory tach. it is a 4k rpm tach, not a 3k, and shows red 2800 thru 4k. the option isn't listed on my window sticker, must've been added at the dealer, will have to ask p.o. as i am the second owner. it does have a crank sensor at about 1130ish to the damper.

That's the exact same stuff I have. Found the tach on eBay for $10. Then had to spend $50 (at the time) on the sensor kit, cause the 91.5 had no crank sensor.

So if I get the crank sensor, the tach should work right?
