Temperature Gauge Problem

Postby Callan » Sat Aug 23, 2008 5:20 am

Now when i'm driving normaly the temp gauge will sit at the line just below half, slowly climb to the line above half then in 2 seconds fall down to the line below half again and repeat. I'm starting to think its either a bad ground somewhere or the sender unit? Any ideas? i'm thinking of saying screw it and get some autometer mechanical gauges that i can trust.. lol

thanks

A bad ground will cause the temp and oil pressure gauges to read high. I've had to fix the ground on th raiator support by the battery on a couple trucks.

Mine did that for a couple days until it purged the air out of the system after I replaced the heater hoses.

How's the antifreeze level look? I'd suspect water level and thermostat-related issues.

I flushed the rad after I got the truck and all the levels see good. What is the best way to purge the air out?

Its been wagile since I flushed it. Would the air not work itself out over time?

Thanks

Yeah I don't like it either. Maybe I'll change that thermostat see if that works

THe swinging of the temp gauge needle is not unusual. Not right, but I've had some do that in the past.

Dont worry too much over it. I changed the thermostat 3 times, new hoses, radiator flush.....finally wised up and put a aftermarket water temp gauge on it....wouldnt you know it stays right around 180 while the stocker bounces off my doors.

well i do feel better that i am not the only one with this problem! aftermarket gauges are definitely on their way that is for sure. Then i can have some peace of mind and actually know what the temp is! not just the line just over half or something.. lol
