Postby hassy21 » Thu Oct 16, 2008 4:47 pm

i am getting bored with the stock headlights in my truck and was wondering if anybody has done an hid headlight setup on there truck? I also want to know where you can get the clear parking lights for the front or are they only for 91.5 grills and up?

I went with the H4 conversion. Bright lights, and I found the housings (not DOT legal) with high power bulbs for $20 pair on ebay. Work great.

Hella makes a conversion headlight that takes an H4 bulb, like a new car. The Hella's are made of glass, they are a little spendy, but they are dot legal and they put out great light.

I put a relay on the high beams of my old D350, and it was like adding another step up the lights. Dim, bright, relayed bright. It'll outshine the 04 Dakota's brights. MIght be an option as well.

But, unscrewing a socket and replacing a bulb is much easier than replacing the whole light assembly.

I Found the Hella conversion at local parts store . Had to grind out tiny piece out of the mount and they bolted right in , these are glass and the kit came with Hella lights for 100 $

iirc an h4 bulb is interchangeable with a 9003. i had a set of the hella conversion housings in my ramcharger. they were much brighter than stock, and even brighter than the no-name japanese ones i had in my 85 gasser once upon a time. they will be going in my D350 as soon as i can find my cut off wheels for my dremel. i bet they will be even brighter with the aforementioned DP relay installed.

So what kind of modifications, if any, are nessesary to put in these hella canversion lights. I will be driving alot at night coming back from the tractor pulls up and down and around the hills so I want some better lighting for spotting deer etc. I would be interested in this setup if it was not too much work. I don't feel like cutting up the front of my truck b/c it is in such good shape

the only cutting involved is to open upthe hole in the headlight bucket. its the hole where your plug goes to the headlight, and stock it is only halfway open. a dremel or a holesaw will open the entire hole up to fit the gasket on teh back of the headlight inside it. other than that it is a bolt in operation.

i hope this makes sense, im super tired....

Makes sence to me. All the cutting will be hidden, cool. I may try that. I have other things screeming louder than that......gauges......

Jake- now add a relay or two and see what you get. I had 11.4V or thereabouts, to my lights before. Now have 13.8.
