Wiring question

Postby ccoxva » Thu Nov 27, 2008 6:10 am

I have a 1991 D250 that has been just cutting off goin down the road. I would have to ether it everytime to start it back. So I finally got time to check it out and the fuel shutoff blue wire was loose on the terminal. I wiggled if off with the truck running and the wire grounded off the top solenoid and truck died and I heard a little pop like one of the fusable links blowed. Have looked at the harness but cant see any wires burnt? Now I have taillights and dome light and heater fan and thats all thats woking. Key does nothing when try to start, heater grid wont work, or hardly anything else. Hope fixing this will solve my truck shutting off and not starting back prob. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yup, sounds like a fusable link fried. Try running your fingers down each one carefully. You should feel a break in it. Maybe turn on the radio, then if it makes contact, you can hear it.
Option B, use a test light on the downstream end, and see if you have power.

Oh, change the spade to a ring terminal on the solenoid too. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

If I remember correctly it is either the red fusible link or the orange one, but it is one of the 2.

Found it I think hard to see when it pouring the snow but its the ornage wire. Just a little confused on how to fix it. The orange wire is coming out of the 2 to 4 conjunction of wires that has the red coming from the voltage reg. What would be the best way to splice in on that.

Fixed the prob. straight wired the orange wire to the battery and that done it.Put 22g wire to it to be like a fusable link. Thanks for the input.

If you do a search, you can find fusable link wire. I can't remember where I saw it though.
