more electrical fun! cluster is d.o.a.

let me start with this:

electrical stuff>me

so after thinking i had a over heating problem since the temp gauge would peg after running for 10 mins, the rest of my gauges died. i have no speedo, volt gauge is laying on the bottom, oil psi is trying to jump through the passenger window, and the temp gauge is still on high. the fuel gauge, however, works fine which is rather disappointing since it completely goes against my luck with electric crap.

im thinking i got a bad ground somewhere? i know that will make crazy sthi happen, and these trucks are good for losing grounds for no reason. any other ideas? where to start looking?

Sounds like a ground to me. Just right of the steering column, should be a ground with a couple wires on it. Not sure where the others are under there. That's the only one I remember from the cab swap.

I know the old ones did. Metal box about 3/4" x 2" and 1/2" thick. I think it plugged into the back of the cluster.

After looking at my FSM (93) the regulator must be in the cluster someplace. It shows a 12 volt feed to each plug that goes to the cluster.

so i overcame my soldering handicap (sorta) to solder the gauge pin connectors on the back as well as add a ground strap to the cluster, ala jim lane style for those that go to dtr. i still got nothing except fuel gauge working. dammit. im open to other suggestions.

Everything "except" my fuel gauge works. Fuel gauge slowly quit over the past two weeks. My sympathies. :P
