Cigarette Lighter

Postby peobryant » Mon Feb 16, 2009 7:11 pm

I'm assuming this is an electrical problem. I tried plugging in my iPod charger into my cigarette lighter, and nothing happened. I wouldn't charge, so i tried my mothers GPS, and the same thing happened. I removed the night before about 3 pennys and a dime, that were stuck inside. Could that be the problem? Will I have to get a new one somewhere, or is it a fairly simple fix?

Thanks

Did you check the fuses? A penny will drop in the hole and pop the fuse.

I'll look into that tomorrow. Where would I get a new fuse? Anyone know the part number?

I guess I'll have to get all the change out of my ashtray...

Thanks Pete.

Didn't you know? 1st gens are pre elctronic. When they were built there were no such things as ipods and gps systems. At least not that would fit in the cab. Such new fangled gizzmos have no business in the cab of a 1st gen!! When you clean the cab out with the garden hose(like all real trucks are done) what do you think is going to happen to those fancy gizzmos? I hear they don't like water. LOL It takes a standard atc type fuse available at wal-marts and parts stores everywhere. :P

What's a Gps ipod? Is that like the ABS box?

You can't buy fuses for these any more. I just keep switching mine from 1 hole to another. Radio in the daylight, lights at night, heater or wipers, etc. I can drive in the rain or the cold, but not both. Or I can have heat and wipers, but no lights. Really sucks!

Do you even know where the fuses are?

I don't smoke either, and the lighter was plugged in. I guess I forgot to plug it back in for a little bit, and when I did, the change was already in there.

Pete, you better be wrong.

I didn't figure it out until I was on my way up, and I never even thought about a blown fuse. I tend to forget about those things.

I don't really need the lighter, but I like to have everything in my truck working properly. Although I've had a broken odo for a little over a year now...

Pete, what the heck are you talking about?

I have a GPS on a designated jack. I also have a laptop semi-permanently wired in to one of my two inverters and my aftermarket ECM. My head unit plays MP3 CD's and I have auxiliary 5 volt, 19 volt, pure 24 volt, nominal 24 volt, and 110 volt power supplies.
