Help me fill up my relay boxes!

Postby Begle1 » Mon Mar 23, 2009 10:52 am

Alright gang, what all do I want to wire up onto relays?

High beam head lights.
Low beam head lights.
One for all my marker lights?
One for reverse lights.
Worth it to put brake lights on a relay?
Power windows; one relay for each motor.
Power door locks.
Horn.
Air horn.

What else should I put on a relay?

I would say not bother with reverse lights, unless you have a lot of them.
And the brake lights are tied to the turn signals somehow. I never looked in the FSM, but I know the brake lights go thru the signal switch so that it works right when signaling.
Horn should already have one.
Air horn. I was going to use a solenoid, but some one said you can't "talk" the horns that way. I think I'm going with a manually operated valve. A solenoid won't use much power anyways. It's not like it's on all the time, like the lights.

OOH! Fan switch! There was a thread on DTR about wiring the heater fan to relays. Worked lots better he said.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
