unless your truck is an 89 it has an electric speedo, and I'm not sure about them even having a mechanical one. I believe over on diesel truck resource there is a write up in the sticky about how to repair the odometer.
Sold 91 now-intercooled W250, 388WHP 923WTQ on #2 only 423WHP 968WTQ on meth 0% correction.

I would guess your odometer gears are busted. Pretty common.

I had the link to the parts. Let me dig.

Give these guys a call if you find it is the gears that are busted.

I have never ordered through them.

when i was looking at the speedometer it looked like all the gears were ok
from what i could see did not take it completely apart but any other options of what it could be maybe the little electrical motor for the gears?
please let me know of other options should probably look for one locally

I have the same problem.
After I punched the trip meter reset the odometer and trip meter quit but the speedo is still going on my '92 W350.

cummins4life- you DID look at the teensy tiny gears inside the speedometer head, and not the ones inside the tranny, right? Just double checking.

Jeff77- Classic symtoms of the aforementioned gears breaking.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to pull it out and check. Maybe better to have the gears in hand I suppose? Or do I need them out to ensure I order the correct number of teeth on the gears?

You'll want them to ensure you order the right teeth gears.
