My thought would be a bad ground, but it sounds like you covered that. Where do the wires for the gauge run? Sometimes I'm kinda careless with my routing, could your brake pedal assembly be rubbing on the wires for your pyro?

Bad ground between the engine body/frame will do that. You might try running a ground from the VR to a manifold bolt.

I have the auto meter tach with the alternator pickup, I have noticed it move slightly with the engine running when I first turn on my lights but that's it for mine. With the engine off and the stereo on with the volume up the needle will jump to the music.

It seems the autometer stuff is real sensitive to voltage changes. Not a good thing on our lousy wiring system. My isspro egt gauge on my 93 will do some funky things when the grid heaters cycle sometimes.

maybe it has to do with the location of the ground.. like how good its grounded?? mines grounded on the brake release bracket thats bolted under the dash..
