Factory Tach In A '91.5

Postby peobryant » Thu May 07, 2009 7:54 pm

I know I have asked this before, and didn't get a real answer.

How can you hook a factory tach up into a truck with no crank position sensor? I know it can be done, as I have seen a factrory tach on a Non I/C truck.

Would I be able to use a wiring kit from Isspro?

I E-mailed Isspro about this a couple minutes ago, but I may call tomorrow and talk to someone.

Richie, what was the name of the guy who took care of you? Have the number by chance?

Thanks

Well, Isspro just E-Mailed me back, and told me to speak with Don in the tech. department. :D

If I can't get it to work, I'm sure I can sell it for more than I bought it for.

Isspro has a magnetic pickup kit PN: R8912. hook one wire to the sensor feed on the tach and the other to the ground and it should work. You can get the kit from genos but your looking at about $60 last time i checked.

My slding rear window wasn't missing any parts either. Until my girlfrined messed with it.

On our first date, as I was taking her home, my headlight switch went out. There must be something about her...

well if you woulda had her home before dark...or the next morning...you wouldnt have had to worry about it.

i hear ya tho. when i had my ramcharger, i replaced alot of bad/broken stuff and it was working great for a long time. my now wife said something was gonna break on it soon. on my way home the wiper motor went out...in a heavy downpour. oh well, i blamed her and got some action for her guilt. it all worked out fine.

It's pretty sad when you have to break your truck to get some "action". ;)

If you met Jeff it'd be pretty obvious why. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Not to pirate this post, but what is the story with the factory tach?
Is it actually built into the cluster, where the fuel gage normally is? Or is it the small tach on top of the dash that I have seen so many pics of?

It was a dealer install option I believe, and most of the time they are on the dash. Like this one.

Thanks for the reply! Thats what I always thought it was, but as I was reading this post, I thought it might be an in dash unit like the new trucks. Thanks for setting me straight on that one.
