A shop can test and add R12. Its is getting pricey but last I knew it was still available. I converted a couple of trucks over to 134A. I just bought the wally world kit and drove it in. You are supposed to evacuate the system and all kinds of jazz but I just put it in. I had a quote of 1200 to fix one of my 89's a/c. I spent 35 bucks and just had to add some every year.

i've been running r12a in my vw for the last 5 or 6 years .
it's a 1991 , so originally a r12 setup ( it has not been converted to 134a )

i plan to use r12a in my dodge once it's back togehther too .

my vw needed an adapter to fill the low pressure side .
you start the engine , engauge the ac , and watch the sight glass and fill the low pressure side till the bubbles just disapear ..... then don't add any more .

once a year i recharge the ac on my car , and it's good till i no longer need the ac , then it looses it charge over the winter months , unless i remember to run the ac a couple times a week .

FREEZE 12!!! It is better IMO and cheeper than R12. The freeze dissapates(sp?) heat better tha R12. Made mine blow about 8* cooler.
