ok comming home from work this morning ym check engine light came on that i didnt even know this truck had? lol so can i read codes on this truck or what? what could be wrong? just about anything i supose?

Yes we do have a check engine light. Cycle the key on/off/on/off/on. Then count the flashes on the check engine light. Watch closely. There is a short pause between flashes when it is changing number. All codes will be a two degit number.

Most likely the alternator /voltage regulator. That is the only thing I've ever had the Check Engine light come on for in 3 different trucks.

so i havent done the key thing but im pretty sure its the alternato/ regulator story. casue the truck hasnt been charging for two days now and it pretty self explanitory. but when you guys get this code what do you replace? alternator or regulator or what? thanks guys

well i took the crank positioning sensor and set it a .050 gap like its suposed to be and still its not charging and a check engine light is on. so what is it a bad CPS? how much do they run from the dealer?

Mine was the CPS what sucks is I replaced alt, PCM before the CPS. Expensive week.

I had a bad CPS also.

If you not going to do the key test to see what the codes are. Your next best option is to find a shop with a scanner and have them hook it up. It would be cheaper than throwing parts at it till you get lucky.

ok well i think its the cps. i had the alt checked on engine and it said the engine never started so i figured it just the cps. monday i will have to get one. its a dealer only item right?

is there any way of seeign if th e cps is functioning or not? i had a on vehicle alt test and they said it never sensed the engine starting. thats what leads me up to it but the dealer wants $115 for a new cps and i would rather know before i buy it. thanks guys

There is a way but you have to have a set up to send a 8 volt signal and then read the return signal. You also have to know which wire does what. I have none of the above. You may also have a bad ASD relay, PCM or wiring trouble. Those would also cause those problems.

so basicaly start throwing parts at it and see if it fixes it? well i guess im off to the dealer to order the cps. does anyone know the part number for it?

ok i went out and did teh key thing. it goes liek this.

111 - 111- 111- 1111- 11111-1111

so 3 - 3 -3 - 4 - 5 - 4.


so is the code 33 34 54?
