Hey everybody, I just bought a 1991 Dodge Ram 350. It is 2wd and a dually with a little over 250K miles which seem to benothing for these 12 valves.

I do have a question though. It is an intercooled truck, but it doesn't have a tps or maybe its a cps I forget the name now. I searcged for a long time for a factory tach, and finally found one in a junkyard in arkansas and i'm pretty bummed that I can;t install the tach in my truck. my question is can I find a newer truck, say '93 or so and take the tps or cps from it and install it on my truck or am I just SOL?

Thanks for the help guys, I hope to stay around here for a while but i'm shure i'll have tons of questions before I can help anyone else out, lol.

I made a thread about this a while ago in the "Electrical" section. I'll dig it up for you, but obviously it wasn't much help, because I still don't have a tach on my truck.

From what I can remember off the top of my head, (not much in this case) Isspro sells a harness that may work with the factory tach.

On another note, you wouldn't happen to be Kenny Green would you? I wouldn't think so, they always gave me crap for driving "that gas guzzler."

Well, apparently my sorry butt posted two threads about this. The first one has more information in it.

You can just get the CPS off a 92-93 truck... the CPS goes through the computer...then to the tach plug inside.

you need to find a 89-91.5 truck that had the dealer installed tach, its just a "CPS" magnet style that goes on the balancer, then runs to under the dash to the plug.

very rare to see a 89-91.5 truck with a factory tach though.

Thank you for the links Parker. Yes my name actually is Kenny Green, but I'm from Arizona, and I'll be going back shortly. I notice it says you are from Goshen Ky. I'm actaully in town visiting my sister, and I bought their truck. You may have seen it before, it sits off of hwy 42 on that farm. Blue and has a what she called a towing tailgate. It looks almost like a net.

Want another one for the Green Goober? $500 and it's yours.

I know the exact truck your talking about, Kenny. The Farm right by the Church. I wish I would've known that truck was for sale, we might have bought it from her. I did want to look at it, ut the "No Tresspasing" sign kept me off the property.

I'd offer to take you for a ride in a fast 1st Gen, but I don't have one, but you're more than welcome to come over and talk diesel for a while. I've been wanting to see that truck for a while. Is she a 5spd or auto?

Philip would know for sure how to go about the tach install, and what is needed. I cant imagine it'd be as simple as getting a CPS from a 92-93.

The OD autos were the only ones (Thank GOD!!) that had a TPS; they all had a CPS starting in 92, though.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but whenever I did, it would sit with a horse trailer hooked to it. I think it was a deep blue colour. I never did see a for sale sign on it though, so I'd guess it was a family thing.

What all do I need to put a factory tach in my 93? Is it a plug and play deal or? I thought I saw a factory wiring diagram but cant remember where.

As far as I know, all '93's have the plug for the tach. It should be taped up under the dash, near the steering column. The factory tach (and an Isspro tach) just plugs up to that, and you're good to go.
