You talking about the VSS?

You have a 2wd truck, so it should be on the side of your tranny. I believe it's on the driver's side. Check your local parts store first (NAPA had them in stock when I was checking) or go to the dealer.

The one on the axle is the ABS sensor. Don't go near that it will make you crazy. ;)
Like Jeff said, it's on the tailshaft of the trans, on the side.
Sounds like you need a new mechanic.

Tell him he is full of :pottytrain: .

The rear axle sensor is for the rear wheel abs.

Just kinda kidding. Murphy's law states that if you touch something, that will be the next thing to break. The ABS systems on these trucks are crude and it doesn't take much to screw them up. Then you pull your hair out trying to make it work right.

Without ABS is way better! What happens is the pedal gets spongy, and the truck doesn't stop for siht. In the ABS valve is an accumulator, and the valve to it sticks open. So when you push the pedal, you fill the accumulator instead of the wheel cylinder, giving you the spongy feeling.
Most guys pull the ABS valve and run the line direct to the hose connection, or use adapters to join the 2 lines. Then unplug the black ABS controller behind the glove box. :D

Re: speed sensor

Postby PToombs » Sat Oct 09, 2010 5:38 pm

The ABS speed sensor is on the top of the rear axle. It has nothing to do with the sensor on the back of the trans, or transfer case on 4x4, which is for the speedo and the cruise control.
The ABS on these vehicles suck, very crude and dangerous when they don't work properly, which is most of the time.
