Postby odessacowboy » Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:21 pm

roll the key to the run position, wait to start light is off...start the engine, and the wait to start light comes on and stays on...i had a charging problem also, but a new alternator fixxed that problem, charging the battery up, out of the truck, now...any input appreciated... 1993...

Here is the FSM section for Grid heater operation and diag. Its easier to open it up and download the .pdf file then try to read it online. I hope it helps!

thanx for the link...just not real electrically inclined...poked around with my testlight, made comparisons to my 1990 work truck, didn't find anything...light still doesn't come on till after the engine is running...stays on solid, no blinking till i shut it down again...i have 3 relays on the fenderwell, by the solinoids, 2 of the same, and the other one is a different plug, i swapped the 2 and that didn't change anything either...i guess i'll disconnect the 2 wires at the manifold solinoid and tape them and see what that does...i don't want to juryrig anything, just want to see that light off...

If you do leave them off you should take off the grid all together for a little more air, you shouldn't need it living way down south.

installed the new battery, 950 cca, new terminals, redid the other connections on the battery...also new alternator last week...disconnected the heater grid, putting up with looking at the wait to start light while i'm driving...drove to brookesville the other afternoon, bout an hour away, and on the way home the amp guage dropped way down and all my lights got weaker and weaker...was glad to get home...so,no charging, again, no seperate voltage regulator on the firewall...charged up the battery with a charger, took about about 24 hours for full charge...kinda not knowing which direction to go now...

Might want to check the crank sensor. It won't charge if the PCM is not getting a running signal from the crank sensor.

went by the alternator shop with the truck 2-day...had them put their guages on it, not charging...pulled off the new alt., he checked it and found nuthing wrong with it...then he checked the wires that hook to it, found no voltage coming through...so, i just bought an external voltage regulator from him for 15 bucks,he showed me how to wire it in,,took it home, not charging, wired it in, mounted it to the firewall, where one would normally mount...he told me that the internal voltage regulator is ran by the ecm, so by wiring in the new one the way i did, it's kinda tricking it into thinking it's charging, the electronic control module, hope i got all that right...anyway, charging good now. now i can get back to my wait to start issues...still have the heater grid unhooked...
