No Turn Signals!

Postby Kebo » Sat Feb 20, 2010 9:51 pm

I tried searching, but I believe the search function is not working properly. Last week I was driving my pickup and realized that the turn signals were not working. I tried pounding on the dash to get them to work, they didn't. I then giggled the lever and they started to work momentarily, but they quickly stopped. Any ideas? I haven't looked into this at all, so I don't know if it could even be the fuses.

If it worked when you wiggled the lever it's not a fuse. May be the signal unit itself in the column. I saw one once that the contact rivets had melted into the plastic and wouldn't make contact.

Yeah, I've been driving it a little bit more and I can get the signals to work about 30-40% of the time, so it's not a fuse. I guess I'll have to start taking apart the column.

i'm with pete on this ,
but you should check the flasher unit first , they can get sticky with age , and wiggling the signal lever can sometimes send enough of a " pulse " of voltage to get the relay to work for a few moments again .

Another good idea! I haven't had a flasher go bad in quite a while, but it happens.

i want to say there are 2 flashers ...... it should be located on the inside of the dash panel , directly under your steering colum .

I haven't touched this issue yet. Been too busy to work on this thing, so I've been drivin the beater around. It gets better MPG's anyways. I'll see what I can do this weekend.

I'm interested in this too. The blinkers on my truck only work on the right side, the left don't work at all.

Huntinguy, have you checked the bulbs? A bad one will cause that. Start simple! If that doesn't work, start checking the wires for a bad connection or break.

Yep, there are 2. One of mine decided to pop out a few weeks back and I couldn't figure out what it was since it got kicked under my seat. There are flashers on either side of the fusebox. One for the hazards, one for the directionals.

This fixed mine, flasher was actually good which is what was throwing me off. It was actually wiggling itself loose in the housing.
