stereo systems?

Postby Gots_a_sol » Sat Jun 26, 2010 7:35 pm

Anybody running anything besides a basic headunit and speakers?

I'm looking at using 2 amps I've had for quite a while now in my car. Both are made by JBL, one is a p80.4(4 channel, going to bridge it down to 2 channels for front speakers) and the other is a bp600.1(single channel sub amp)

I don't plan on ever having anybody riding in the back so the jump seats will be coming out and I'll build the sub box into the pass. side and an amp rack in the drivers. Here is a quick idea of how the amps would look in there. I just screwed them onto a scrap piece of plywood just to get an idea of how they would sit. I plan on setting them back into the space from the seat more and making it look a little cleaner.

I haven't decided what sub I want to go with. I have a brand new Kicker solo-baric 8" square sub that has been sitting on the shelf for years I might try out.

So, anybody else running an overly elaborate system in these old trucks?

Figured I'd work on the stereo a bit as I got tired of body work, haha.

This sub

Goes in this

Which also holds this

The front corners will be cut off parallel to the amp, leading into another section of the console that will run up to the dash and house the 2nd amp (4-channel) and some damn cup holders haha.

I decided part of the reason for the console was to have some storage. The other amp now sits in the front of the console. The storage compartment is offset to allow the wires for the sub amp to run down the side of it. I'll make a lid for it eventually.

The general mess of the cockpit is coming together. I was just going to eliminate the stock info center completely, but the leds weren't working as well as I had hoped. So I'm just going to move the info center to where the stock radio was . I had put my radio in there, but apparently I have short arms and it was a pain to reach any of the buttons.

The piece with the radio trim set in it was a piece of scrap, so I wasn't too concerned about straight lines. It was more a test piece to see how the radio sat. I plan on putting a power point or 2 on the right side of the radio since the ashtray is no longer usable.

didn't like how the console looked with the kick up for the radio, so whacked it off (giggity)

Image

Wire for the Ipod coming from the radio. I want to make a pocket to hold the ipod right here on the side at some point.

Image

Look at all that red.

Image

Too bad the tach is green. And it seems Nordskog has going out of business, so I guess I'll be hunting on ebay for a red version of the gauge. I had a piece of red tint over the display but it made it too dark to read during the day. Even without it, its hard to read in direct sunlight. Stupid autometer not making a 2" tach like my other gauges

I just ran out and grabbed this pic and its not nearly as bad as I thought. I don't have the dimmer hooked up, so its a little bright yet.

That looks sweet. What did you do with the info center.

Its buried in the bowels of the dash

I have leds around the gauges that are wired to the stock info center. I had to keep the info center hooked up though since the leds didn't put enough load on the circuit and would dimly glow even when they were off. I forgot to label what each one did though

I really want my gauge faces silver. I had tried getin ahold of the guy that made the stickers to cover the factory. But he had problems and didn't want to make them.
