No dash light

Postby scottdevall@yahoo.com » Tue Aug 17, 2010 3:45 pm

The other night i went to get in my truck to pick up my brother from scouts, and i turned on the dash board light and the headlights. They both worked and after a scond the dash board lights went out. I checked the fuse and the fuse is ok, i turned on the switch and there is voltage going to the fuse and i checked the voltage on both sides of the fuse and it has voltage to both sides. Now im asuming the switch the switch is ok, because there is voltage to the fuse is ok. So any help please and if possible let me now where the ground for the dash is. The things that dont light is the dash, and the radio. But the turn signals work, and the guages are able to function so any help please. Is the dash board lights in a series wiring so when one blows they all go, Thank you

The way I understand it is this. There is a fuse ( small amp like said above ) that gets the power from the switch. If that fuse has power then the switch is working. That fuse should also " dim " the voltage as it is hooked to the dash light dimmer.

Pull the light out of the ash tray and ohm out the wires. One will go back to the fuse the other to ground. This will tell u on witch side the problem is.

The voltage is controlled by the light switch. the knob is turned right and left for more or less voltage. Bright one way. Dim the other.

Then the switch is bad. Don't really remember but I think that the switch is powered by two fuses. One for head lamps other one is for the park lights and the switch robs power from the p lights.
Sometimes on my truck I can turn on the lights and my dash light won't come on and then I wiggle the switch pull and they come on. Poor contact I guess. I bought the borg warner part to replace the original that went bad. Crappie part.
