Radio, cd player, single din, double din, Whats up?

Postby BREEZE1 » Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:02 am

I've looked around and I've noticed that it's hard to find any info on stereo up grades that folks have done to these trucks. I know the Cummins and turbo combination is music enough for most of us, but sometimes we need some tunes. What have yall done in your trucks stereo wise? What have you seen that you really like? Pix would be nice....

I just bought an adapter kit from walmart with the plugs for the factory wires. Also put some 6X9s in the doors. Still can't hear it

I am currently gearing up for a sound system in mine. CD player i had in a previous vehicle, 2-10'' subs behind the seat, have 6x9's and a component set to install aswell. Some amps and electronic crossover, biggest problem is where to put it all. Good thing there is room under the seat. I havent looked to see what the factory speaker sizes are yet but i will make it work.

My best system so far was in my 89. ( some of the system is 15 years old and has since died ). I had an Alpine radio, Rockford Fosgate amp, punch subs, quartz tweeters. That thing was pretty good. My 92 has a single din pioneer cd with the walmart adapter and the 93 is still rocking a factory radio. Its pretty easy putting in a good stereo. I just put one in my dads 66 caprice that he bought at wally world and it is a nice system.

I'm running a factory AM/FM/CD/Cassette player. Anything up to '01 will plug right in. I may have had to cut a tab off, but nothing major to make it fit. I need new door speakers, but I'm running 4" somethings there and factory 4x7's in the back corners in the factory mounts. Sounds pretty good most of the time.

Eclipse CD5030 head unit
JBL P80.4 speaker amp. Bridged to 2 channels
JBL BP600.1 sub amp
Kicker S8L5 8" sub
CDT CL-61 6.5" component speakers
no rears
custom center console to hold it all

I haven't finished putting it together yet, but here are some pics. I'm not sure on the radio location yet either. I may end up putting it in the factory spot and putting my cup holders in the console there.
