Not sure on the amps on the 91 but, a 92 has a 120 amp alternator. Advance Auto and Autozone both do the alternator testing, both also sell new alternators. Get one with a lifetime warranty.

I am not sure about them checking on the vehicle, they checked mine while it was off.

they can check it either on or off. off the vehicle is more accurate, but on the vehicle is alot more convenient for you. besides, they don't have a 5k dollar mobile Arbst tester for nothing.

While we're talking checking alternators, can they check them when they don't have pulleys attached ?? ( not on the engine, of course)

I have accumulated several that I would like to know which ones are good ones.

I don't think so! The tester I saw , you put the alternator on a pin, looped the belt over, hooked up the wires and spun it. No pulley, no spinney? :(

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I have not had good luck with parts store rebuilds the last 2 or 3 times I got them. I have gotten my starters and alternators rebuilt by a good local shop, usually for 20-30% less than the parts stores, and I dont have the hassle of my yearly alternator change at Advance, AutoZone, et al. What good is a free exchange if it wont last any longer than the one I took off? I have yet to have to rebuild it when the local yokels do it.
