Aftermarket Grills.......

Postby Power Wagon Guy » Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:11 am

Does anybody make one (91-93") with the "DODGE" black lettering?....if not, anybody successfully removed lettering and put it on an aftermarket grill?

Maybe try taking your old broken grille and making a transfer template from it? That's my thoughts.....

the letters are recessed into the factory grille. the aftermarket grilles do not have the indentations for the letters to fit into. if it were me, id have some decals made that look like the letters and stick them on.

Yeah I see that there is a slight indentation for the lettering in the original grill....I thinks if I carefully try to remove the existing letters I can reapply them to the aftermarket grill with emblem adhesive....the big thing I guess is to get the old letters off in one piece withoput destroying them....thinking a razor blade may work....

Try some fishing wire. Single strand.

I just looked at one I have here. The letters are attached by pushing the mounting pins through the grille. Then they were deformed by using heat to melt them in place from behind. An 8" half round smooth file would work to remove the melted parts without damage. Probably some 120 grit sand paper would also work.

Thanks for that info, I was wondering if there were pins thru the grill as the grill on my truck hasen't been removed yet.....so I'll need to make a template of the holes and drill new holes in the aftermarket grill.....sounds like a plan.

I had the same problem with my aftermarket grill, i bought the dodge letters from the dealer and measured the spacing between the letters cut off the tabs and used a good quality double sided tape, and put them on. and thats been about 3 years ago and there still on. i had a pic but cant locate it.
